An observation, not necessarily correct.
People who want to pass on their family name or leave a mark in history are actually afraid of death, afraid of their own disappearance. They want a part of themselves to remain in this world after death because of their attachment and love for the world. Those who seek love actually want to connect with another person, often to escape loneliness. Those who seek fame are actually lacking in love, needing attention and love from many people. Those who seek material gain generally lack a sense of security, needing a lot of money to ensure they do not fall into material scarcity. Those who want nothing and lack nothing, men may fall into depression, while women may act recklessly. In Wang Xiaobo's novel "The Lover" the emperor is described as "He lacks nothing, so he developed a mild depression." The girl Xiaoqing is described as "She lacks nothing, so she acts recklessly." The emperor in the palace represents the elimination of material scarcity, while the girl in the deep mountains represents spiritual abundance and fulfillment.
Most people are in a state of lack, which is relative to desire. When the lack is eliminated and desire extinguished, you will see a state of deficiency in the soul - emptiness, which is the default state created by God. The state of lack is stable, while the state of deficiency resulting from the elimination of lack is an extremely unstable psychological state, like being at the highest point on a sphere, from which you do not know where it will slide to. Many so-called abnormal psychological states originate from this point, as they rarely occur and are considered abnormal, while the common state of lack is seen as normal, when in fact in the eyes of the Creator, there is no normal or abnormal. Why were there fewer people with psychological "issues" in times of material and spiritual scarcity, and why are there more people with psychological "issues" now in times of increasing material and spiritual wealth? It is because more people have achieved the elimination of lack, reaching an extremely unstable psychological state. This state of deficiency and extreme psychological state actually often appears in our lives - if you observe carefully, it is fleeting, but if you can linger or hover in that state for a long time, you will discover and experience a world different from the past and from ordinary people.
